Pendragon Green Sofa
This green pendragon leather sofa had some tears in it. Contrary to popular belief these particular tears are not burst seams. As the stitching has not come undone sewing this back together would result in an imperfect repair. In order to stitch this it would be a make good repair only and comes with no warranty. However this does not mean that the sofa needs to be thrown away. We offered the customer a panel replacement for the damaged panels.
A panel replacement is completed on this pendragon sofa by removing the seating place from the sofa in order to remove the leather and replace it. First the dust cover is removed by pulling the staples out. Then by unbolting it. And the below picture is how the sofa is left.
Panel Colouring
Once the seating place is taken away it is usually away for up to 14 days. The leather is then removed from the cushions. Leather is ordered in the nearest possible colour to the leather that was already on the green pendragon sofa. Nevertheless it will be an exact colour match upon return. Next the seamstress will unpick the leather panel and fit the new leather. Previously this would have been cut to size of the old panel. After the leather has been fit to the cover, the leather needs to be dyed to an exact match.
First the cover is fitted back onto the cushions. Above all this helps ensure that their is little touching the leather one its been sprayed. Before it can be sprayed colour mixing is undertaken. And once an exact match is reached the leather is coloured. Initially this is done using a lint free cloth and leather dye to apply a base coat. Later an air compressor is used to spray the leather.
Soon after spraying it is left to dry whilst a date is arranged with the customer to bring this back to their home. Upon arrival at the customers home the seating place is fitted back into the sofa. Then it is re-bolted. In addition to this the dust cover is stapled back on.
Clean And Colour Restoration
As a result of wear and tear there were several other areas which had colour loss. Meanwhile cleaning the remainder of the sofa we also cleaned the other matching sofa. It is cleaned using leather cleaner and a lint free cloth. Following this it is the prepped. Similarly this is done using a lint free cloth. However leather prep is used instead of leather cleaner. Now the process of colouring is to apply a base coat and spray the sofa to bring it back to life.
Finally, after the clean and colour restoration is completed a final coat of lacquer is applied. Lastly this is the seal to protect the restoration.
