3str Sofa Re-padding
This 3 seater sofa had lost its comfort and was in need of seat re-padding.
Initially in order to re-pad the sofa it needs to be flipped over so that the sofa is upside down. On the bottom of the sofa is a dust cover. Its job is to protect the inside of the sofa from dust, spiders etc. Firstly the technician removes the feet of the sofa. Then uses a braddle to lift the staples that are holding the dust cover to the sofa frame. Once all of the staples have been lifted the technician uses pliers to pull the staples out. As a result of the staples being pulled out the dust cover can be pulled back to access the cushions inside the sofa.
Secondly the technician pulls at the webbing to ensure it isn’t stuck to the cushion. Next the technician cuts a large piece of foam to cover the entire cushion. It should be noted that the seat cushions are padded individually. Therefore this should be repeated for all 3 of the seats. Now the technician cuts the next piece of foam. Differing from the last piece this would be smaller. This is to be placed wherever the seat dips. If when sitting on the seat you fall to either side. The side you fall to should be the side the foam is placed. However if not to a side then the foam should be placed in the middle. There are videos on TikTok of the padding being completed.
Testing the padding
Foam should be continually added until the technician can no longer feel the dipping area from the underside of the sofa. Yet the technician will still flip the sofa over and test the seats to ensure that it feels comfortable to sit on. Similarly the technician may ask the customer to sit on the seats to ensure that they are happy with the feel of the cushions.
Undoubtedly, if the customer says they would like the cushions to feel firmer then the technician will add more foam.
Of course if the customer is happy that the cushions are comfortable then no more foam needs to be added.
Lastly the technician cuts a small piece of foam. Regardless of the previous dip this small piece of foam is to be placed in the centre of the cushion. Again, this is to be done on each of the cushions. Certainly once the seats have been re-padded the dust cover needs to be re-attached. The technician lines up the holes in the dust cover with the holes in the frame for the feet of the sofa. Now that this is done the technician uses a staple gun to staple the dust cover to the frame of the sofa. This is done all around the edge of the dust cover. Finally the feet are screwed back onto the sofa. Since the sofa is all put back together it can be flipped back over and the sofa is ready to be sat on.
